In depth: Our Thai Courses for Business in Bristol

1:1 and Group Thai Courses in Bristol

Thai language courses by SIMON & SIMON have been honed down to give you the greatest progress and value for money.

While we offer learning options on both a 1:1 and group basis, we find that most of our learners benefit most from 1 to 1 language training courses.

Group training offers great value for money, but the commitment and organisation to ensure the participants all show up at the same time every week is a trade-off. We recommend no more than 6 participants in a group otherwise the quality of the learning will drop dramatically for all learners.

Thai Course Management

Every SIMON & SIMON language course is overseen by one of our highly experienced Account Managers, all of whom are multi-lingual.

At the start of your Thai language course we will send you a profile on your trainer, followed by a Course Plan and relevant course materials, and then a Progress Report after every 40 hours of training. You will also receive a copy of our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, featuring a superb prize draw and invaluable weblinks to language learning sources.

Thai Course Locations & Schedules

SIMON & SIMON’s network is completely international, with a strong presence across the UK. Thai language courses have been arranged with our experienced language teachers in almost any major city around the world. Bristol Thai Course Schedules

We run our language courses all year long and can happen anytime between 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday. Weekend courses may also be negotiated with your teacher.

Sessions are typically 90 minutes long with at least one session per week. This can be increased or reduced according to your personal schedule.

And if you have an urgency to learn Thai, you can take part in an intensive Thai language course which consists of 6 hours every day Monday – Friday giving you 30 hours per week.

Thai Course Content

We do not run standardised Thai language courses. Instead, one of our multi-lingual Account Managers will speak to you directly and tailor the course to your particular objectives. Your teacher then guides you through your learning at the pace and in the direction that you yourself help to set.

This means that whether you’re an absolute beginning looking to “just survive” in Thailand, or if you are a professional who wishes to understand the nuances of the language in order to perform better in a law, banking, finance, insurance, sales, travel, marketing or administration context, you will be able to find what you need with SIMON & SIMON’s Thai language courses.

We can also help you with pronunciation, translations, presentation skills and cultural training to help you better participate in the entirety of Thai culture.

Importantly, if you are looking to sit any kind of Thai language examinations, we can assist in your preparations and guide you through the necessary revision. We pride ourselves on achieving a 95% pass rate – which really comes down to the personal 1 to 1 language training from highly experiences Thai language teachers.

We will also assist in the registration and administration of these exams and can also handle the issuing of result certificates.

About Thai

Thai is the national and official language of Thailand and the native language of the Thai people, Thailand’s dominant ethnic group. Thai is a member of the Tai group of the Tai-Kadai language family. Historical linguists have been unable to definitively link the Tai-Kadai languages to any other language family. Some words in Thai are borrowed from Pali, Sanskrit and Old Khmer. It is a tonal and analytic language. Thai also has a complex orthography and relational markers. Thai is mutually intelligible with Lao, whereas the Isaan dialect is almost the same as Lao.

About Bristol

Bristol is a city, unitary authority area and ceremonial county in South West England, with an estimated population of 433,100 for the unitary authority in 2009, and a surrounding Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) with an estimated 1,006,600 residents, it is England’s sixth, and the United Kingdom’s eighth most populous city, one of the group of English Core Cities and the most populous city in South West England.

Bristol received a Royal Charter in 1155 and was granted County status in 1373. From the 13th century, for half a millennium, it ranked amongst the top three English cities after London, alongside York and Norwich, on the basis of tax receipts, until the rapid rise of Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester during the Industrial Revolution in the latter part of the 18th century. It borders the counties of Somerset and Gloucestershire and is also located near the historic cities of Bath to the south east and Gloucester to the north. The city is built around the River Avon, and it also has a short coastline on the Severn Estuary, which flows into the Bristol Channel. Bristol is the largest centre of culture, employment and education in the region. Its prosperity has been linked with the sea since its earliest days.

The commercial Port of Bristol was originally in the city centre before being moved to the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth; Royal Portbury Dock is on the western edge of the city boundary.

Assess Your Thai Level

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions across the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their Thai language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise  Thai in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.
