Swedish Language Courses & Training

Swedish is a North Germanic language which is predominantly spoken by around 9 million native speakers in Sweden and parts of Finland. In Finland, it has equal legal standing with Finnish. Swedish is mutually intelligible with Norwegian and Danish as well.

It is descendent from Old Norse, which was the language most commonly spoken during the Viking Era in Scandinavia. It has the most number of speakers of all the North Germanic languages.

SIMON & SIMON offers both 1:1 Swedish language courses as well as group sessions.

However, we strongly recommend that you take a 1 to 1 course if you can. This is because the teacher can focus on your particular needs, and the course can also be tailored to the direction you want to go with the language.

Group courses are, of course, available because they do offer their own benefits – peer to peer learning, value for money, social engagement. We suggest keeping groups to 6 or less in order to maintain the integrity of your education.

An Account Manager will walk you through the courses we have available and help you create a course that is best suited to your needs. All our Account Managers are friendly and multi-lingual to ensure we communicate as effectively as possible with you.

You will receive all your materials, reports and administrative bits and pieces from your Account Manager.

Swedish language courses can happen anywhere across the UK, such as London and Manchester or the world. Where they can, teachers will come into your workplace or your home – whichever is more convenient. Alternatively, our teachers can conduct your Swedish language course in our facilities or online. We are flexible to what suits you best.

Most learners will take a single 90 minute session every week. However, if personal schedules permit it, then many of our students take more than this. Our most intensive courses are 30 hours per week, with each day Monday – Friday involving 6 hours of learning.

Our Swedish teachers are available Monday – Friday from 8am – 6pm. We can also arrange for weekend courses if you request it.

When you get in touch with us, we will have a detailed discussion about what your objectives are. This will drive the content of your Swedish language course. This isn’t a standardised course – we literally create it around what you require, and based on the assessment of your language level.

We can construct it around, maybe, business language that you need in order to participate in the Swedish sector of your company. Or we could base it more in the day-to-day language required if you are planning to move to Sweden or Finland.

Whatever your requirement, your Account Manager will tailor your course for your needs and send you all the relevant course materials along with a profile of your trainer. They will also send you progress reports for every 40 hours completed.

If you are seeking qualifications – either business or general – in Swedish, we will also be pleased to help you with Swedish language examination applications, processing and certification. We boast a 95% pass rate from our students so we are self-assured in our ability to help you through any exams.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions across the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their Swedish language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise Swedish in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.
