A considerable number of German words have derived from Latin and Greek, with a few words also descending from French and English language. German is a pluricentric language, meaning multiple countries have their own standardised variants of the language including, Austrian German and Swiss Standard German. German is spoken as a second language by approximately 80 million people and is the most commonly spoken language in some states of America after English. German language has the same alphabet as English language except for an additional letter which is “ß” this letter is a consonant which is used as a double-S (SS) sound and is called an “eszett” or “sharp S”. German language had the opportunity to be the native language of the United States, but English was chosen over German by only one vote. The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions across the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their German language trainer in Westminster can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise German in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

About Farringdon

Farringdon is a historic borough located in Central London. Today, it is represented by Wards of Farringdon Within and Farringdon Without. Informally, Farringdon also refers to the area around Farringdon station located in Islington, which is north of the actual historical location of the borough. It is part of the ancient City of London, and has a very modern vibe to it nowadays.

In Old English Farringdon literally translates to ‘fern covered hill’. The name originates from Nicholas de Faringdon in 1279, when he purchased the area that we now call Farringdon.

About Blackfriars

Blackfriars is a Central London borough, located at the south-west corner of the City of London.

The name dates back to 1317 when it was referred to as Black Freres, which translates to the Black Brothers from French. The name was derived from the black cappa worn by Dominican Friars. They moved their priory from Holborn to the area between River Thames and Ludgate Hill in 1276.

Historically, the borough was used for important occasions of state such as meetings of the Parliament and the Privy Council, as well as the location used for a divorce hearing in 1529 between Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII. The priory was closed in 1538 during Henry’s Dissolution of the monasteries.

About Soho

Soho is an area located in Central London, more specifically, between the City of Westminster and the West End.

Soho’s initial heritage dates back to Henry the VIII in 1536 when it became a royal park, developed from farmland.

100 years later, after building developments have started, Soho was seen as a fashionable district for the aristocracy.

Soho’s reputation changed dramatically throughout the years. For most of the 20th century, Soho had a reputation as a base for the sex industry in addition to its night-life and its location for the headquarters of leading film companies.

Nowadays, Soho is seen as a predominantly fashionable district, with only a mark of the former sex industry.

The West End got its name in the early 19th century, and it was used to describe upmarket and fashionable areas immediately west of Charing Cross. It now stretches between Knightsbridge, Westminster, and Camden.

The West End is the main commercial and entertainment centre of the city and it can be directly compared to Midtown Manhattan in New York City or Shibuya in Tokyo. It is the second most expensive place in the world to rent an office in, just behind Silicon Valley’s Sand Hill Road.

Currently, the borough has a population of 272,890 which includes one of the highest Muslim populations in the country. Assess Your German Level

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions across the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their German language trainer in Tower Hamlets can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practice German in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich (also known as simply Greenwich) is London borough located in south-east London. The borough was officially formed in 1965 by the combining the former Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich with part of the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich to the east, and it got its name from the historic town of Greenwich.

The Borough reached international fame as the official location of the Prime Meridian, on which all Coordinated Universal Time is based. The Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich, while the Greenwich Observatory has been designated as the assembly point for the Greenwich Mean Time (also known as GMT).
