About English

English arose from the languages spoken by the Anglo-Saxons and then spread throughout the medieval kingdom of Northumbria. Over the centuries, it evolved and eventually became the language we speak today. This was spread across the globe under the British Empire and its military, scientific, political, cultural, and economic influence. The language was perpetuated similarly by the United States in the 20th century. As a result, English is widely spoken throughout the world as a first or second language, and is the common language of communication between speakers of different languages. The native speakers of English are outnumbered only by speakers of Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

Assess Your English Level

The following table is reflective of the levels of language learning accepted by many institutions throughout the EU. If you commit to weekly sessions with an English Language trainer in Buckingham, and match the time with self-study, you can expect to move up a level for every 50 hours of training.

It is important, however, that you recognise that this table is only a guideline. Some students take to languages more easily than others, and some have more opportunities for practice, so your progression might be faster or slower than this projection.
