Southampton Vietnamese Course Schedules

The Vietnamese language courses in Southampton that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. Vietnamese courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Vietnamese language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Vietnamese language course we will assess your level of Vietnamese and speak to you about your aims so that your Vietnamese language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to Vietnamese before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in Vietnamese when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use Vietnamese in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced Vietnamese language trainers will tailor your Vietnamese course so that your goals can be quickly met.

Vietnamese Language Examination Courses

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Vietnamese is the national and official language of Vietnam. It is the mother tongue of 86% of Vietnam's population, and of about three million overseas Vietnamese. It is also spoken as a second language by many ethnic minorities of Vietnam. It is part of the Austro-Asiatic language family, of which it has the most speakers by a significant margin (several times larger than the other Austroasiatic languages put together). Much of Vietnamese vocabulary has been borrowed from Chinese, most notably Cantonese, especially words that denote abstract ideas (in the same way European languages borrow from Latin and Greek), and it was formerly written using the Chinese writing system, albeit in a modified format and was given vernacular pronunciation.

Southampton is the largest city in the county of Hampshire on the south coast of England, and is situated 120 kilometres (75 mi) south-west of London and 30 kilometres (19 mi) north-west of Portsmouth. Southampton is a major port and the closest city to the New Forest.
