Many professionals in companies across the UK, as well as private individuals, have benefited from an Thai Language Course with SIMON & SIMON. We have a terrific team of qualified native-speaker Thai teachers, and with an average of 15 years' experience they will ensure you benefit from a course designed specifically around your needs, whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced learner with more specialised requirements. We consistently receive excellent feedback on our Thai tutors from our clients, and we send our students a profile on their Thai tutor prior to their Thai lessons commencing, with information on the tutor's background and experience.

Maybe your only knowledge of studying languages is what you remember from school. Modern language teaching has recently changed to be much more entertaining and rewarding. Your Thai lessons in Reading will be carried out almost completely in Thai. This is the Communicative Approach and by this method you will notice progress from the initial lesson. You will soon feel confident and able to use Thai to communicate in various business and social situations.

The Thai courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 Thai training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Participants numbers should be kept to 6 or less, and they will need to commit to meeting every week. If you require faster progress, 1:1 Thai courses at Reading are more suitable as the lessons and course can be tailored to the individual’s needs while focusing on their specific weaknesses and strengths.

Thai Course Management

Each of SIMON & SIMON’s Thai languages courses is the responsibility of a multi-lingual, very experienced Account Manager. When you start your Thai course, you will receive your trainer’s profile. Thereafter we will send you a Course Plan, materials for the course and, after each 40 hours of training, a Progress Report. Our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, will also reach you, and contains a prize draw as well as the weblinks of language learning resources.

SIMON & SIMON Thai language courses have been arranged for clients in various locations. We have a global network of trainers and wherever you are, we will be able to organise a Thai language course for you, not only in the UK but in almost any of the major cities in Europe and beyond. Most of our Thai courses are run at the offices of our clients so that you do not have to travel, but we are happy to arrange Thai training sessions for you in your home. Full-time Thai courses can be arranged in a residential setting for you. Our office has information on the locations we offer.

Reading Thai Course Schedules

We run our Thai language courses in Reading all through the year. Many of our students, if work commitments allow, will attend more than one session weekly, and the vast majority take part in at least one 90-minute lesson weekly. We also arrange weekend Thai courses on request. Our Thai programs commence from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Intensive 30 hour per week Thai language courses, held on clients’ premises or at residential centres in the UK or abroad, are also available on a 6 hours per day basis, Monday through Friday.

Whatever your personal level of experience and future goals, your Thai course will be customised for you. Before you start the course we will assess your level of Thai and discuss in detail what you would like to focus on. You may desire simply to gain everyday Thai skills from the level of a complete beginner, or you may have more experience in Thai and want to improve your ability to discuss banking, finance or marketing. You may want to develop improved pronunciation and comprehension skills or improve your Thai for use in negotiations and meetings. Whatever your goals and needs, our highly experienced Thai language trainers will tailor your Thai course so that your goals will be met quickly.

Thai Language Examination Courses

If you are taking a Thai examination, for business or other reasons, we are happy to help you with your preparations. We are very proud of the 95% pass rate of our students in language examinations. We believe this highlights the value of working with Thai teachers in Reading whose experience is above average. SIMON & SIMON can also register you for your Thai examination, administer the examination and issue you your results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Breaking the Language Barrier

Back to top of Thai Courses Reading

Thai is the national and official language of Thailand and the native language of the Thai people, Thailand's dominant ethnic group. Thai is a member of the Tai group of the Tai-Kadai language family. Historical linguists have been unable to definitively link the Tai-Kadai languages to any other language family. Some words in Thai are borrowed from Pali, Sanskrit and Old Khmer. It is a tonal and analytic language. Thai also has a complex orthography and relational markers. Thai is mutually intelligible with Lao, whereas the Isaan dialect is almost the same as Lao.

Reading is a large town and unitary authority area in England, located at the confluence of the River Thames and River Kennet, and on both the Great Western Main Line railway and the M4 motorway, some 40 miles (64 km) west of London. For ceremonial purposes it is in the Royal County of Berkshire and has served as the county town since 1867. Reading was an important national centre in the medieval period, as the site of an important monastery with strong royal connections. Today it remains a commercial centre, with links to information technology and insurance. Reading also hosts two universities, a large student population, and is home to one of England's biggest music festivals. The settlement was founded at the confluence of the River Thames and River Kennet in the 8th century as Readingum. The name probably comes from the Readingas, an Anglo-Saxon tribe whose name means "Reada's People" in Old English, or (less probably) the Celtic Rhydd-Inge, "Ford over the River". The name of the settlement was derived from an earlier folk, or tribal, name. Anglo-Saxon names ending in -ingas originally referred not to a place but to a people, in this case specifically the descendants or followers of a man named Reada, literally "The Red One."
