Portuguese Course Management

Each of SIMON & SIMON’s Portuguese languages courses is the responsibility of a multi-lingual, very experienced Account Manager. When you start your Portuguese course, you will receive your trainer’s profile. Thereafter we will send you a Course Plan, materials for the course and, after each 40 hours of training, a Progress Report. With a global network of language trainers a Portuguese language course can be held in almost any major city throughout Europe and elsewhere. Sussex Portuguese Course Schedules

The Portuguese language courses in Sussex that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. Portuguese courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Portuguese language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Portuguese language course we will assess your level of Portuguese and speak to you about your aims so that your Portuguese language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to Portuguese before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in Portuguese when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use Portuguese in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced Portuguese language trainers will tailor your Portuguese course so that your goals can be quickly met.

Portuguese Language Examination Courses

We are happy to help in your preparation for any Portuguese examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced Portuguese teachers in Sussex. Issuing of results certificates, registration for Portuguese examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Portuguese is a Romance language developed from Galician-Portuguese that was spoken in the medieval Kingdom of Galicia. It is an official language of the European Union, the Organisation of American States, the African Union, and Lusophone countries. With around 240 million speakers, Portuguese is the sixth-most spoken language in the world. Portuguese is the official language of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique. According to estimates by UNESCO, Portuguese and Spanish are the fastest-growing European languages after English and the language has the highest potential for growth as an international language in southern Africa and South America.

Sussex is an historic county in South East England corresponding roughly in area to the ancient Kingdom of Sussex. It is bounded on the north by Surrey, east by Kent, south by the English Channel, and west by Hampshire, and is divided for local government into West Sussex and East Sussex and the city of Brighton and Hove. The city of Brighton & Hove was created a unitary authority in 1997; and was granted City status in 2000. Until then Chichester had been Sussex's only city. The divisions of West Sussex and East Sussex were first established in 1189, and had obtained separate administrations (Quarter Sessions) by the 16th century. This situation was recognised by the County of Sussex Act 1865. Under the Local Government Act 1888 the two divisions became two administrative counties (along with three county boroughs: Brighton, Hastings and, from 1911, Eastbourne). The appellation Sussex remained in use as a ceremonial county until 1974, when the Lord-Lieutenant of Sussex was replaced with one each for East and West Sussex. The whole of Sussex has had a single police force since 1968.
