Our students are sent a profile containing information on their specific teacher’s experience and background before the start of their Portuguese Lessons. New teaching approaches have revolutionised how modern language training is now approached. This training, with more fun and a more worthwhile experience means that it’s a far cry from what you may remember of studying languages in school.
When you start a Portuguese course in Plymouth, you will make progress from the very first lesson, as almost everything will be done in Portuguese. This is known as the Communicative Approach, and means that your confidence and ability will soon grow so that you can use Portuguese to communicate in social and business settings. The Portuguese courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 Portuguese training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Participants numbers should be kept to 6 or less, and they will need to commit to meeting every week.
If you require faster progress, 1:1 Portuguese courses at Plymouth are more suitable as the lessons and course can be tailored to the individual’s needs while focusing on their specific weaknesses and strengths. Portuguese Course ManagementSIMON & SIMON’s Portuguese language courses all have a specific Account Manager who oversee the course. Each of these managers is highly experienced and multi-lingual.
At the start of your Portuguese course, you will receive a profile on your trainer, course materials and a Course Plan. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. We will send you our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, which contains a wonderful prize draw as well as weblinks to valuable language learning resources. We have a global network of language trainers so our Portuguese language courses can be arranged for almost any major European city, or even further abroad. SIMON & SIMON have run Portuguese language courses for clients in many diverse locations.
Portuguese language courses can be run in your home for your convenience, but many of our clients prefer to run them in their offices so as to minimise travel.

We also provide Intensive Portuguese language courses on clients’ premises or in residential centres both in the UK and abroad. You may have little or no experience of Portuguese and only want basic conversational skills or you may be more proficient and desire more fluency with which to discuss business.
You may want to raise your Portuguese skills for use in meetings and negotiations or rather develop increased comprehension and pronunciation skills.

Portuguese Language Examination CoursesSIMON & SIMON also assists in preparation for Portuguese examinations, whether for business or personal qualification. We believe that our 95% pass rate for language examinations is a reflection of our policy of working with Portuguese teachers in Plymouth who possess above average experience.
Registration for and administration of Portuguese examinations, along with the issuing of results certificates are all provided by SIMON & SIMON. The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.
Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

SIMON & SIMON International Breaking the Language Barrier Back to top of Portuguese Courses Plymouth Portuguese is a Romance language developed from Galician-Portuguese that was spoken in the medieval Kingdom of Galicia. It is an official language of the European Union, the Organisation of American States, the African Union, and Lusophone countries. With around 240 million speakers, Portuguese is the sixth-most spoken language in the world. Portuguese is the official language of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique. According to estimates by UNESCO, Portuguese and Spanish are the fastest-growing European languages after English and the language has the highest potential for growth as an international language in southern Africa and South America. Plymouth is a city and unitary authority area on the coast of Devon, England, about 190 miles (310 km) south-west of London. It is built between the mouths of the rivers Plym to the east and Tamar to the west, where they join Plymouth Sound. Since 1967 the City of Plymouth has included the suburbs of Plympton and Plymstock, which are on the east side of the River Plym.
Plymouth's history goes back to the Bronze Age, when its first settlement grew at Mount Batten. This settlement continued to grow as a trading post for the Roman Empire, until the more prosperous village of Sutton, the current Plymouth, surpassed it. In 1620 the Pilgrim Fathers left Plymouth for the New World and established Plymouth Colony – the second English settlement in what is now the United States of America. During the English Civil War the town was held by the Parliamentarians and was besieged between 1642 and 1646.
Throughout the Industrial Revolution Plymouth grew as a major shipping port, handling imports and passengers from the Americas, while the neighbouring town of Devonport grew as an important Royal Naval shipbuilding and dockyard town. The county boroughs of Plymouth and Devonport, and the urban district of East Stonehouse were merged in 1914 to form the single county borough of Plymouth – collectively referred to as The Three Towns.
