The Portuguese courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 Portuguese training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Portuguese Course Management

A multi-lingual Account Manager with extensive experience is responsible for each SIMON & SIMON Portuguese language course. A profile on your trainer, Course Plan and course materials will be sent to you when you start your Portuguese course. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. The Portuguese language courses of SIMON & SIMON have been run in numerous locations. As we have a global network of language trainers your Portuguese language course can be arranged in major cities across Europe and further afield. Most of our clients arrange for their Portuguese lessons to be run in their offices so that there is less need for travel, but we can also run Portuguese lessons in your home. We also run residential full-time Portuguese language courses in a variety of locations which our office will be happy to inform you of.

Derby Portuguese Course Schedules

The Portuguese language courses in Derby that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. Portuguese courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Portuguese language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Portuguese language course we will assess your level of Portuguese and speak to you about your aims so that your Portuguese language course can be customised for you. Portuguese Language Examination Courses

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Portuguese is a Romance language developed from Galician-Portuguese that was spoken in the medieval Kingdom of Galicia. It is an official language of the European Union, the Organisation of American States, the African Union, and Lusophone countries. With around 240 million speakers, Portuguese is the sixth-most spoken language in the world. Portuguese is the official language of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique. According to estimates by UNESCO, Portuguese and Spanish are the fastest-growing European languages after English and the language has the highest potential for growth as an international language in southern Africa and South America.

Derby is a city and unitary authority in the East Midlands region of England. It lies upon the banks of the River Derwent and is located in the south of the ceremonial county of Derbyshire. In the 2001 census, the population of the city was 233,700, whilst that of the Derby Urban Area was 229,407. According to the 2001 census, Derby was at that time the 18th largest settlement in England, measured by urban area. The city has Roman, Saxon and Viking origins. The Roman camp of 'Derventio' was probably at Little Chester/Chester Green. The site of the old Roman fort is at Chester Green. Later the town was one of the 'Five Boroughs' (fortified towns) of the Danelaw. The popular belief is that the name 'Derby' is a corruption of the Danish and Gaelic Djúra-bý, recorded in Anglo-Saxon as Deoraby "Village of the Deer". This popular belief is asserted by Tim Lambert who states, "The name Derby is derived from the Danish words deor by meaning deer settlement" without reference or proof. However some assert that it is a corruption of the original Roman name 'Derventio'. The proven origin of the name "Derby" would seem to be elusive.
