The Communicative Approach

With on average 15 years’ experience, our native speaking fully qualified teachers build a course to your specific requirements so you can get the most out of our course, irrespective of your starting level. Our French teachers constantly receive outstanding feedback from our clients. Before the start of your French lessons, a profile containing your teacher’s background and experience are sent to you.

Is the only experience you have of learning a language from when you were at school? You may be unaware that there has been a huge change in the teaching of modern languages! It is now more fun and more worthwhile. All of our teachers will be using the Communicative Approach, which is where your lessons will mostly be conducted in French. Using this method, you will see yourself progress from the first lesson and will soon be confident enough to conduct business or talk socially in French.

In depth: Our French Courses for Business in London

1:1 and Group French Courses in London

French courses from us can be run for groups or individuals. While many of our clients offer their employees French courses on a 1:1 basis, group sessions can be excellent value. Group sessions do require planning and commitment from the participants and we recommend that no more than 6 people participate in a group. As 1:1 lessons can be tailored to an individual’s needs, strengths and weaknesses, learning French in London on a 1:1 basis will give quicker progress.

About French

French is a Romance language spoken as a first language by around 136 million people worldwide. A total of 500 million speak it as either a first, second, and foreign language. Moreover, some 200 million people learn French as a foreign language. French speaking communities are present in 56 countries and territories. Most native speakers of the language live in France, the rest live essentially in Canada, particularly Quebec, a minority in New Brunswick and Maine, as well as Belgium, Switzerland, Monaco, Luxembourg and Louisiana. Most second-language speakers of French live in Francophone Africa, arguably exceeding the number of native speakers.

About London

London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. London has the biggest population within Europe with over 8.6 million residents. However, this is not the largest population London has seen, with the current population equivalent to the population 76 years ago. To cope with the extreme population of London, there are approximately 10000 miles of sewage pipes underneath London.

London has been a major settlement for two millennia. Founded by the Romans, who called it Londinium, London retains its square-mile mediaeval boundaries where you will find today’s financial and business hub of London. London is a leading global city, with its strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence as a city. London is the world’s largest financial centre alongside New York and has the largest city GDP in Europe.

London is home to 43 universities which forms the largest concentration of higher education institutions in Europe. In 2012, London became the first city to host the Summer Olympic Games three times. London is also leading the way in transport and is home to London Heathrow airport which sees the largest amount of international passengers pass through it compared to any other airport in the world, and is also home to the London Underground which has annual passenger numbers of over 1.25 billion.

Assess Your French Level

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions across the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their French language trainer in London can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise French in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.
