All over the UK, private individuals and professionals in a variety of companies have gained benefits by taking part in a Japanese Language Course from SIMON & SIMON. With an average of 15 years’ experience, the native Japanese speakers of SIMON & SIMON’s qualified teaching team tailor each course for the specific requirements of the student, from absolute novices to those with some experience. Our clients reliably give excellent feedback on our Japanese teachers. Each of our students receives an information profile on the background and experience of their Japanese teacher before they commence their Japanese lessons.

If you have only studied languages before at school you will find that teaching approaches to modern language training have changed enormously in recent years - it's now a lot more fun and a far more rewarding experience! Your teacher will conduct your Japanese lesson in Wiltshire almost entirely in Japanese - a method known as the Communicative Approach - and you will find yourself making progress from the very first lesson and soon growing in the confidence to communicate in Japanese in a variety of social and business situations.

Our Japanese language courses are available on both a 1:1 and group basis, but the majority of our clients offer 1:1 Japanese training to their employees. However, with careful planning, group training can offer great value for money, provided there is a real commitment from the participants to get together at the same time every week. We strongly recommend you keep group numbers to 6 or less for these types of courses to be successful. Those learning Japanese in at Wiltshire on a 1:1 basis will naturally make much faster progress, as the course will be designed around their individual needs and focus on their particular strengths and weaknesses.

Japanese Course Management

Every SIMON & SIMON Japanese language course has a highly experienced, multi-lingual Account Manager who oversees it. When your Japanese course starts you will be sent a profile on your trainer, materials for your course and a Course Plan as well as a Progress Report for every 40 hours of training. Breaking the Language Barrier, our quarterly newsletter that you will also receive, contains a prize draw as well as weblinks to a number of learning resources.

SIMON & SIMON has arranged Japanese language courses for clients in numerous locations, and with our global network of language trainers we can organise a Japanese language course for you wherever you are - in almost any major city in the UK, Europe and beyond. The vast majority of our Japanese lessons take place at our clients' offices, removing the need for you to travel, but Japanese lessons can take place in your home if that is more convenient. We can also arrange full-time residential Japanese language courses for you - just contact our office for information on available destinations.

Wiltshire Japanese Course Schedules

Our Japanese language courses in Wiltshire go on all year. Some of our students attend more than one 90-minute weekly session if work circumstances allow, and most will attend at least one per week. Weekend Courses in Japanese can be arranged on request. Our Japanese courses are available 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday. 30 hour per week intensive Japanese courses can be held on clients’ premises or in residential centres in the UK or abroad. These courses take 6 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

We will tailor your Japanese language course for your specific aims and level of knowledge. Before you start your Japanese language course we will assess your goals and level of Japanese experience. Your desire to learn Japanese may be simply to develop basic skills, or you may have some level of proficiency and wish to increase your ability to use Japanese to discuss business. You may want to develop your language skills so that you can use Japanese in negotiations and meetings or improve your pronunciation and telephone skills. No matter what goals you have, you can be confident of our Japanese trainers experience and that your Japanese language course is tailored to your needs and your goals will be quickly met.

Japanese Language Examination Courses

Our students’ pass rate for Japanese examinations is at 95%, and we are happy to help with the preparations for any such examination. Our high pass rate shows the value of working with Japanese teachers in Wiltshire who have a higher level of experience than average. SIMON & SIMON also arrange registration for Japanese examinations as well as administering the examination and issuing the results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Japanese is a language spoken by over 130 million people in Japan and in Japanese emigrant communities. Dozens of dialects are spoken in Japan. The profusion is due to many factors, including the length of time the archipelago has been inhabited, its mountainous island terrain, and Japan's long history of both external and internal isolation. The main distinction in Japanese accents is between Tokyo-type and Kyoto-Osaka-type, though Kyūshū-type dialects form a third, smaller group. Within each type are several subdivisions. Kyoto-Osaka-type dialects are in the central region, with borders roughly formed by Toyama, Kyōto, Hyōgo, and Mie Prefectures; most Shikoku dialects are also that type. The final category of dialects are those that are descended from the Eastern dialect of Old Japanese; these dialects are spoken in Hachijō-jima island and a few others.

Wiltshire is a ceremonial county in South West England. It is landlocked and borders the counties of Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire. It contains the unitary authority of Swindon and covers 3,485 km2 (861,000 acres). The ancient county town was Wilton, but since 1930 Wiltshire County Council and its successor Wiltshire Council (from 2009) have been based at Trowbridge. Wiltshire is characterised by its high downland and wide valleys. Salisbury Plain is famous as the location of the Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles and other ancient landmarks and as the main training area in the UK of the British Army. The city of Salisbury is notable for its medieval cathedral. Important country houses open to the public include Longleat, near Warminster, and the National Trust's Stourhead, near Mere. Wiltshire is notable for its pre-Roman archeology. The Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age people that occupied southern Britain built settlements on the hills and downland that cover Wiltshire. Stonehenge and Avebury are perhaps the most famous Neolithic sites in the UK. In the 6th and 7th centuries Wiltshire was at the western edge of Saxon Britain, as Cranborne Chase and the Somerset Levels prevented the advance to the west. The Battle of Bedwyn was fought in 675 between Escuin, a West Saxon nobleman who had seized the throne of Queen Saxburga, and King Wulfhere of Mercia. In 878 the Danes invaded the county.
