Private individuals and professionals in companies all over the UK have profited from undertaking a Japanese Language Course with SIMON & SIMON. Averaging 15 years of experience, our native Japanese speaking qualified teachers construct your course so that your individual requirements are met, no matter what your level of experience. Our Japanese teachers receive excellent feedback from our clients. A profile, containing information about the Japanese teacher’s background and experience, is sent to each student before the Japanese lessons start.

The way that modern languages are taught has gone through a revolution in the past few years. If you have only learned languages at school you will find that the experience now is vastly more fun and worthwhile. The Communicative Approach means that your Japanese lessons in Devon will be almost entirely through the medium of Japanese. You will feel that you are making real progress, even in the first lesson, and will soon communicate in Japanese with confidence, in a range of social and business environments.

The Japanese courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 Japanese training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Participants numbers should be kept to 6 or less, and they will need to commit to meeting every week. If you require faster progress, 1:1 Japanese courses at Devon are more suitable as the lessons and course can be tailored to the individual’s needs while focusing on their specific weaknesses and strengths.

Japanese Course Management

SIMON & SIMON’s Japanese language courses all have a specific Account Manager who oversee the course. Each of these managers is highly experienced and multi-lingual. At the start of your Japanese course, you will receive a profile on your trainer, course materials and a Course Plan. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. We will send you our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, which contains a wonderful prize draw as well as weblinks to valuable language learning resources.

SIMON & SIMON Japanese language courses have been arranged for clients in various locations. We have a global network of trainers and wherever you are, we will be able to organise a Japanese language course for you, not only in the UK but in almost any of the major cities in Europe and beyond. Most of our Japanese courses are run at the offices of our clients so that you do not have to travel, but we are happy to arrange Japanese training sessions for you in your home. Full-time Japanese courses can be arranged in a residential setting for you. Our office has information on the locations we offer.

Devon Japanese Course Schedules

We run our Japanese language courses in Devon all through the year. Many of our students, if work commitments allow, will attend more than one session weekly, and the vast majority take part in at least one 90-minute lesson weekly. We also arrange weekend Japanese courses on request. Our Japanese programs commence from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Intensive 30 hour per week Japanese language courses, held on clients’ premises or at residential centres in the UK or abroad, are also available on a 6 hours per day basis, Monday through Friday.

Whatever your personal level of experience and future goals, your Japanese course will be customised for you. Before you start the course we will assess your level of Japanese and discuss in detail what you would like to focus on. You may desire simply to gain everyday Japanese skills from the level of a complete beginner, or you may have more experience in Japanese and want to improve your ability to discuss banking, finance or marketing. You may want to develop improved pronunciation and comprehension skills or improve your Japanese for use in negotiations and meetings. Whatever your goals and needs, our highly experienced Japanese language trainers will tailor your Japanese course so that your goals will be met quickly.

Japanese Language Examination Courses

If you are taking a Japanese examination, for business or other reasons, we are happy to help you with your preparations. We are very proud of the 95% pass rate of our students in language examinations. We believe this highlights the value of working with Japanese teachers in Devon whose experience is above average. SIMON & SIMON can also register you for your Japanese examination, administer the examination and issue you your results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Japanese Courses Devon

Japanese is a language spoken by over 130 million people in Japan and in Japanese emigrant communities. Dozens of dialects are spoken in Japan. The profusion is due to many factors, including the length of time the archipelago has been inhabited, its mountainous island terrain, and Japan's long history of both external and internal isolation. The main distinction in Japanese accents is between Tokyo-type and Kyoto-Osaka-type, though Kyūshū-type dialects form a third, smaller group. Within each type are several subdivisions. Kyoto-Osaka-type dialects are in the central region, with borders roughly formed by Toyama, Kyōto, Hyōgo, and Mie Prefectures; most Shikoku dialects are also that type. The final category of dialects are those that are descended from the Eastern dialect of Old Japanese; these dialects are spoken in Hachijō-jima island and a few others.

Devon is a large county in southwestern England. The county is sometimes referred to as Devonshire, although the term is rarely used inside the county itself and often indicates a traditional or historical context, such as The Devonshire Association, which was formed in 1862. The county shares borders with Cornwall to the west and Dorset and Somerset to the east. Its southern coast abuts the English Channel and its northern coast the Bristol Channel. The name "Devon" derives from the kingdom of Dumnonia, which was home to the tribe of Celtic people who inhabited this area of the southwestern peninsula of Britain at the time of the Roman invasion in AD 43, Dumnonii―possibly meaning 'Deep Valley Dwellers' or 'Worshippers of the god Dumnonos'. Devon is the fourth largest of the English counties and has a population of 1,141,600. The county town is the cathedral city of Exeter and the county contains two independent unitary authorities: the port city of Plymouth and the Torbay conurbation of seaside resorts, in addition to Devon County Council itself. Plymouth is also the largest city in Devon. Much of the county is rural (including national park) land, with a low population density by British standards. It contains Dartmoor 954 km2 (368 square miles), the largest open space in southern England. The county is home to part of England's only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dorset and East Devon Coast, known as the Jurassic Coast for its geology and geographical features.
