Glasgow Italian Course Schedules

The Italian language courses in Glasgow that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. Italian courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Italian language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Italian language course we will assess your level of Italian and speak to you about your aims so that your Italian language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to Italian before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in Italian when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use Italian in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced Italian language trainers will tailor your Italian course so that your goals can be quickly met.

Italian Language Examination Courses

We are happy to help in your preparation for any Italian examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced Italian teachers in Glasgow. Issuing of results certificates, registration for Italian examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Italian is a Romance language spoken as a native language by about 70 million people in Italy, Malta, San Marino and parts of Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia and France. Many native speakers are native bilinguals of both standardised Italian and regional varieties. Italian derives diachronically from Latin and is the closest national language to Latin. Unlike most other Romance languages, Italian retains Latin's contrast between short and long consonants. As in most Romance languages, stress is distinctive. In particular, among the Romance languages, Italian is the closest to Latin in terms of vocabulary. Lexical similarity is 89% with French, 87% with Sardinian, 85% with Catalan, 82% with Spanish, 78% with Rhaeto-Romance and 77% with Romanian.

Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and third most populous in the United Kingdom. The city is situated on the River Clyde in the country's west central lowlands.
