SIMON & SIMON’s team of qualified native Italian speaking teachers average 15 years of experience. Professionals and private individuals from all over the UK have benefited from SIMON & SIMON’s Italian language courses, all of which are tailor-made to reflect each student's level of experience. We consistently receive outstanding feedback from our clients about our Italian tutors. Each student is sent a specific profile on the experience and background of their Italian tutor before they start their course of lessons.

Maybe your only knowledge of studying languages is what you remember from school. Modern language teaching has recently changed to be much more entertaining and rewarding. Your Italian lessons in Derby will be carried out almost completely in Italian. This is the Communicative Approach and by this method you will notice progress from the initial lesson. You will soon feel confident and able to use Italian to communicate in various business and social situations.

Our Italian language courses are available on both a 1:1 and group basis, but the majority of our clients offer 1:1 Italian training to their employees. However, with careful planning, group training can offer great value for money, provided there is a real commitment from the participants to get together at the same time every week. We strongly recommend you keep group numbers to 6 or less for these types of courses to be successful. Those learning Italian in Derby on a 1:1 basis will naturally make much faster progress, as the course will be designed around their individual needs and focus on their particular strengths and weaknesses.

Italian Course Management

One of our highly experienced, multilingual Account managers oversees each SIMON & SIMON Italian language course. On starting your Italian course you will receive various materials including a profile on your trainer, a Course Plan and course materials and a Progress Report on every 40 hours of your training. Breaking the Language Barrier, our quarterly newsletter, which contains weblinks to various language learning sources and a prize draw, will also be sent to you.

Italian language courses have been run by SIMON & SIMON in many locations. Our global network of language trainers means that any major city in the UK Europe, and beyond can hold your Italian language course. We can arrange your Italian language lessons for your own home, but many of our clients like to run them in their offices so as to minimise travel. Residential full-time Italian language courses are also available. Our office can discuss available locations with you.

Derby Italian Course Schedules

The Italian language courses in Derby that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can also arrange Weekend Courses for you. Italian courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Italian language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Italian language course we will assess your level of Italian and speak to you about your aims so that your Italian language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to Italian before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in Italian when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use Italian in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced Italian language trainers will tailor your Italian course so that your goals can be quickly met.

Italian Language Examination Courses

We are happy to help in your preparation for any Italian examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced Italian teachers in Derby. Issuing of results certificates, registration for Italian examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Italian Courses Derby

Italian is a Romance language spoken as a native language by about 70 million people in Italy, Malta, San Marino and parts of Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia and France. Many native speakers are native bilinguals of both standardised Italian and regional varieties. Italian derives diachronically from Latin and is the closest national language to Latin. Unlike most other Romance languages, Italian retains Latin's contrast between short and long consonants. As in most Romance languages, stress is distinctive. In particular, among the Romance languages, Italian is the closest to Latin in terms of vocabulary. Lexical similarity is 89% with French, 87% with Sardinian, 85% with Catalan, 82% with Spanish, 78% with Rhaeto-Romance and 77% with Romanian.

Derby is a city and unitary authority in the East Midlands region of England. It lies upon the banks of the River Derwent and is located in the south of the ceremonial county of Derbyshire. In the 2001 census, the population of the city was 233,700, whilst that of the Derby Urban Area was 229,407. According to the 2001 census, Derby was at that time the 18th largest settlement in England, measured by urban area. The city has Roman, Saxon and Viking origins. The Roman camp of 'Derventio' was probably at Little Chester/Chester Green. The site of the old Roman fort is at Chester Green. Later the town was one of the 'Five Boroughs' (fortified towns) of the Danelaw. The popular belief is that the name 'Derby' is a corruption of the Danish and Gaelic Djúra-bý, recorded in Anglo-Saxon as Deoraby "Village of the Deer". This popular belief is asserted by Tim Lambert who states, "The name Derby is derived from the Danish words deor by meaning deer settlement" without reference or proof. However some assert that it is a corruption of the original Roman name 'Derventio'. The proven origin of the name "Derby" would seem to be elusive.
