Both professionals and non-professionals alike have seen great benefits from a SIMON & SIMON Greek Language Course. SIMON & SIMON’s team of qualified Greek teachers is made up of native speakers who average 15 years of experience. These teachers will make sure that a course is tailored for your specific needs so that you will benefit regardless of your language proficiency. Feedback from clients on our Greek tutors is consistently highly positive. Our students are sent a profile containing information on their specific teacher’s experience and background before the start of their Greek Lessons.

If you have only studied languages before at school you will find that teaching approaches to modern language training have changed enormously in recent years - it's now a lot more fun and a far more rewarding experience! Your teacher will conduct your Greek lesson in Durham almost entirely in Greek - a method known as the Communicative Approach - and you will find yourself making progress from the very first lesson and soon growing in the confidence to communicate in Greek in a variety of social and business situations.

The Greek courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 Greek training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Participants numbers should be kept to 6 or less, and they will need to commit to meeting every week. If you require faster progress, 1:1 Greek courses at Durham are more suitable as the lessons and course can be tailored to the individual’s needs while focusing on their specific weaknesses and strengths.

Greek Course Management

One of our highly experienced, multilingual Account managers oversees each SIMON & SIMON Greek language course. On starting your Greek course you will receive various materials including a profile on your trainer, a Course Plan and course materials and a Progress Report on every 40 hours of your training. Breaking the Language Barrier, our quarterly newsletter, which contains weblinks to various language learning sources and a prize draw, will also be sent to you.

The Greek language courses of SIMON & SIMON have been run in numerous locations. As we have a global network of language trainers your Greek language course can be arranged in major cities across Europe and further afield. Most of our clients arrange for their Greek lessons to be run in their offices so that there is less need for travel, but we can also run Greek lessons in your home. We also run residential full-time Greek language courses in a variety of locations which our office will be happy to inform you of.

Durham Greek Course Schedules

Our Greek language courses in Durham go on all year. Some of our students attend more than one 90-minute weekly session if work circumstances allow, and most will attend at least one per week. Weekend Courses in Greek can be arranged on request. Our Greek courses are available 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday. 30 hour per week intensive Greek courses can be held on clients’ premises or in residential centres in the UK or abroad. These courses take 6 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

We will tailor your Greek language course for your specific aims and level of knowledge. Before you start your Greek language course we will assess your goals and level of Greek experience. Your desire to learn Greek may be simply to develop basic skills, or you may have some level of proficiency and wish to increase your ability to use Greek to discuss business. You may want to develop your language skills so that you can use Greek in negotiations and meetings or improve your pronunciation and telephone skills. No matter what goals you have, you can be confident of our Greek trainers experience and that your Greek language course is tailored to your needs and your goals will be quickly met.

Greek Language Examination Courses

Our students’ pass rate for Greek examinations is at 95%, and we are happy to help with the preparations for any such examination. Our high pass rate shows the value of working with Greek teachers in Durham who have a higher level of experience than average. SIMON & SIMON also arrange registration for Greek examinations as well as administering the examination and issuing the results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Greek Courses Durham

Greek an independent branch of the Indo-European family of languages, is the language of the Greeks. Native to the southern Balkans, it has the longest documented history of any Indo-European language, spanning 34 centuries of written records. Its writing system has been the Greek alphabet for the majority of its history; other systems, such as Linear B and the Cypriot syllabary, were previously used. The alphabet arose from the Phoenician script, and was in turn the basis of the Latin, Cyrillic, Coptic, and many other writing systems.

Durham is a city in the North East of England. It is within the County Durham local government district, and is the county town of the larger ceremonial county. It lies to the south of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Chester-le-Street and Sunderland and to the north of Darlington. Durham is well known for its Norman Cathedral and 11th-century castle, and is home to Durham University. HM Prison Durham is also located close to the city centre. Archeological evidence suggests a history of settlement in the area since roughly 2000 BC. The present city can clearly be traced back to AD 995, when a group of monks from Lindisfarne chose the strategic high peninsula as a place to settle with the body of Saint Cuthbert, that had previously lain in Chester-le-Street, founding a church there. Local legend states that the city was founded in A.D. 995 by divine intervention. The 12th-century chronicler, Symeon of Durham, recounts that after wandering in the north, Saint Cuthbert’s bier miraculously came to a halt at the hill of Warden Law and, despite the effort of the congregation, would not move. Aldhun, Bishop of Chester-le-Street and leader of the order, decreed a holy fast of three days, accompanied by prayers to the saint. Saint Bede recounts that during this fast, Saint Cuthbert appeared to the monk Eadmer with instructions that the coffin should be taken to Dun Holm.
