All over the UK, private individuals and professionals in a variety of companies have gained benefits by taking part in a Greek Language Course from SIMON & SIMON. With an average of 15 years’ experience, the native Greek speakers of SIMON & SIMON’s qualified teaching team tailor each course for the specific requirements of the student, from absolute novices to those with some experience. Our clients reliably give excellent feedback on our Greek teachers. Each of our students receives an information profile on the background and experience of their Greek teacher before they commence their Greek lessons.

If the only experience you have of studying a language is from your time in school, you may not know that there has been a revolution in the teaching of modern languages so that it is both more fun and more worthwhile. Your Greek teacher in Devon will be using the Communicative Approach, where your lessons will, with few exceptions, be conducted in Greek. You will see your progress from that very first lesson and will soon be confident enough to conduct business or talk socially in Greek.

The Greek courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 Greek training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Participants numbers should be kept to 6 or less, and they will need to commit to meeting every week. If you require faster progress, 1:1 Greek courses at Devon are more suitable as the lessons and course can be tailored to the individual’s needs while focusing on their specific weaknesses and strengths.

Greek Course Management

Each of SIMON & SIMON’s Greek languages courses is the responsibility of a multi-lingual, very experienced Account Manager. When you start your Greek course, you will receive your trainer’s profile. Thereafter we will send you a Course Plan, materials for the course and, after each 40 hours of training, a Progress Report. Our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, will also reach you, and contains a prize draw as well as the weblinks of language learning resources.

SIMON & SIMON’s Greek language courses have been run for clients in many different locations. With a global network of language trainers a Greek language course can be held in almost any major city throughout Europe and elsewhere. We can arrange Greek language courses in your home or, as many of our clients prefer, in your offices to remove the need for you to travel. Full-time residential Greek language courses are also an option. For a list of locations, please contact our office.

Devon Greek Course Schedules

We run Greek language courses in Devon all year. Most of our students participate in no less than one 90-minute lesson per week, but many students will participate in more if work commitments allow. Weekend Courses can be facilitated, and our Greek weekday courses run from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Greek language courses are also available and can be run at the client’s premises or a residential centre in the UK or overseas. These courses take place over 6 hours a day, Monday through Friday, for 30 hours per week.

Your Greek language course’s content will be tailored to your experience and goals. Prior to the course, we will assess your Greek language level and speak to you comprehensively about the areas and subjects you are interested in. Students may be complete novices who need everyday Greek conversational skills or have more proficiency in Greek and wish to be able to discuss various business topics such as banking or finance more fluently. Students may desire to bolster their Greek for negotiations and meetings or focus on gaining better listening, pronunciation and comprehension skills. No matter what your needs, you can be confident that our very experienced Greek language trainers will work with you on a Greek language course that is tailored for you so that you quickly meet your goals.

Greek Language Examination Courses

Greek examination preparation for business or other examinations can also be assisted with. Our students boast a 95% rate of passing such examinations, proving the value of our policy of Greek teachers in Devon with experience above the average. SIMON & SIMON also organises registration and administration of Greek examinations as well as issuing results certificates as a part of our service.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Greek Courses Devon

Greek an independent branch of the Indo-European family of languages, is the language of the Greeks. Native to the southern Balkans, it has the longest documented history of any Indo-European language, spanning 34 centuries of written records. Its writing system has been the Greek alphabet for the majority of its history; other systems, such as Linear B and the Cypriot syllabary, were previously used. The alphabet arose from the Phoenician script, and was in turn the basis of the Latin, Cyrillic, Coptic, and many other writing systems.

Devon is a large county in southwestern England. The county is sometimes referred to as Devonshire, although the term is rarely used inside the county itself and often indicates a traditional or historical context, such as The Devonshire Association, which was formed in 1862. The county shares borders with Cornwall to the west and Dorset and Somerset to the east. Its southern coast abuts the English Channel and its northern coast the Bristol Channel. The name "Devon" derives from the kingdom of Dumnonia, which was home to the tribe of Celtic people who inhabited this area of the southwestern peninsula of Britain at the time of the Roman invasion in AD 43, Dumnonii―possibly meaning 'Deep Valley Dwellers' or 'Worshippers of the god Dumnonos'. Devon is the fourth largest of the English counties and has a population of 1,141,600. The county town is the cathedral city of Exeter and the county contains two independent unitary authorities: the port city of Plymouth and the Torbay conurbation of seaside resorts, in addition to Devon County Council itself. Plymouth is also the largest city in Devon. Much of the county is rural (including national park) land, with a low population density by British standards. It contains Dartmoor 954 km2 (368 square miles), the largest open space in southern England. The county is home to part of England's only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dorset and East Devon Coast, known as the Jurassic Coast for its geology and geographical features.
