German Courses for Business in Southampton

Please click a title below for further information:

SIMON & SIMON’s team of qualified native German speaking teachers average 15 years of experience. Professionals and private individuals from all over the UK have benefited from SIMON & SIMON’s German language courses, all of which are tailor-made to reflect each student's level of experience. We consistently receive outstanding feedback from our clients about our German tutors. Each student is sent a specific profile on the experience and background of their German tutor before they start their course of lessons.

New teaching approaches have revolutionised how modern language training is now approached. This training, with more fun and a more worthwhile experience means that it’s a far cry from what you may remember of studying languages in school. When you start a German course in Southampton, you will make progress from the very first lesson, as almost everything will be done in German. This is known as the Communicative Approach, and means that your confidence and ability will soon grow so that you can use German to communicate in social and business settings.

Our German language courses are available on both a 1:1 and group basis, but the majority of our clients offer 1:1 German training to their employees. However, with careful planning, group training can offer great value for money, provided there is a real commitment from the participants to get together at the same time every week. We strongly recommend you keep group numbers to 6 or less for these types of courses to be successful. Those learning German in Southampton on a 1:1 basis will naturally make much faster progress, as the course will be designed around their individual needs and focus on their particular strengths and weaknesses.

German Course Management

Each of SIMON & SIMON’s German languages courses is the responsibility of a multi-lingual, very experienced Account Manager. When you start your German course, you will receive your trainer’s profile. Thereafter we will send you a Course Plan, materials for the course and, after each 40 hours of training, a Progress Report. Our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, will also reach you, and contains a prize draw as well as the weblinks of language learning resources.

SIMON & SIMON has arranged German language courses for clients in numerous locations, and with our global network of language trainers we can organise a German language course for you wherever you are - in almost any major city in the UK, Europe and beyond. The vast majority of our German lessons take place at our clients' offices, removing the need for you to travel, but German lessons can take place in your home if that is more convenient. We can also arrange full-time residential German language courses for you - just contact our office for information on available destinations.

Southampton German Course Schedules

Our German language courses in Southampton run throughout the year. The majority of our students attend at least one 90-minute session per week and many students will try to do more than one session depending on work commitments. Our German teachers are available Monday - Friday from 8am - 8pm, and Weekend Courses can also be arranged on request. Our intensive German language courses run for 30 hours per week, (6 hours per day Monday - Friday), and take place on our clients' premises or at a residential centre here in the UK or abroad.

The content of your German language course will reflect your level and your particular objectives. We will assess your German language level before your course, and discuss with you in detail the subject areas you wish to focus on. You may be a complete beginner looking for day-to-day German survival language skills, or a more proficient German speaker needing to improve your fluency when discussing areas such as law, banking, finance, insurance, sales, travel, marketing, and administration. You may want to focus on improving your German for meetings, discussions and negotiations, or to concentrate on improving your listening comprehension, pronunciation and telephone skills. Whatever your needs, working with one of our highly experienced German language trainers you can be confident that the content of your German language course will be tailored just for you and that you will soon be meeting your objectives.

German Language Examination Courses

We can also help prepare you for German examinations of a business or general nature. We are proud to say our students have a 95% pass rate in language examinations, and their success further underlines the value we place on working with German teachers in Southampton with above average experience. As part of our service, SIMON & SIMON will also organise the registration and administration of German examinations and the issuing of result certificates.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

German is a West Germanic language, thus related to and classified alongside English and Dutch. It is one of the world's major languages and the most widely spoken first language in the European Union. Globally, German is spoken by approximately 120 million native speakers and also by about 80 million non-native speakers. Standard German is widely taught in schools, universities and Goethe Institutes worldwide. German is primarily spoken in Germany (where it is the first language for more than 95% of the population), Austria (89%) and Switzerland (65%). German is also spoken by the majority of the populations of Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. Other European German-speaking communities are found in Northern Italy (in the Province of Bolzano-Bozen and in some municipalities in other provinces), in the East Cantons of Belgium, in the French regions of Alsace and Lorraine, and in some border villages of the former South Jutland County (in German, Nordschleswig, in Danish, Sønderjylland) of Denmark.

Southampton is the largest city in the county of Hampshire on the south coast of England, and is situated 120 kilometres (75 mi) south-west of London and 30 kilometres (19 mi) north-west of Portsmouth. Southampton is a major port and the closest city to the New Forest. It lies at the northernmost point of Southampton Water at the confluence of the River Test and River Itchen, with the River Hamble joining to the south of the urban area. The local authority is Southampton City Council, which is a unitary authority. Significant employers in Southampton include the University of Southampton, the Ford Transit factory, Ordnance Survey, the BBC through Radio Solent and South Today, the NHS and one of the largest commercial ports in Europe. The city represents the core of the Greater Southampton region, and the city itself has an estimated population of 234,600 (MYE 2008). The city's name is sometimes abbreviated in writing to "So'ton" or "Soton", and a resident of Southampton is called a Sotonian. Southampton is noted for its association with the RMS Titanic, the Spitfire and more recently a number of the largest cruise ships in the world.
