German Course Management

Cumbria German Course Schedules

Our German language courses in Cumbria go on all year. Some of our students attend more than one 90-minute weekly session if work circumstances allow, and most will attend at least one per week. Weekend Courses in German can be arranged on request. Our German courses are available 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday. 30 hour per week intensive German courses can be held on clients’ premises or in residential centres in the UK or abroad. These courses take 6 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

We will tailor your German language course for your specific aims and level of knowledge. Before you start your German language course we will assess your goals and level of German experience. Your desire to learn German may be simply to develop basic skills, or you may have some level of proficiency and wish to increase your ability to use German to discuss business. You may want to develop your language skills so that you can use German in negotiations and meetings or improve your pronunciation and telephone skills. No matter what goals you have, you can be confident of our German trainers experience and that your German language course is tailored to your needs and your goals will be quickly met.

German Language Examination Courses

Our students’ pass rate for German examinations is at 95%, and we are happy to help with the preparations for any such examination. Our high pass rate shows the value of working with German teachers in Cumbria who have a higher level of experience than average. SIMON & SIMON also arrange registration for German examinations as well as administering the examination and issuing the results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

German is a West Germanic language, thus related to and classified alongside English and Dutch. It is one of the world's major languages and the most widely spoken first language in the European Union. Globally, German is spoken by approximately 120 million native speakers and also by about 80 million non-native speakers. Standard German is widely taught in schools, universities and Goethe Institutes worldwide. German is primarily spoken in Germany (where it is the first language for more than 95% of the population), Austria (89%) and Switzerland (65%). Cumbria is a non-metropolitan county in North West England, United Kingdom. Cumbria, and a new local authority called Cumbria County Council, came into existence as a county in 1974 after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972. The county consists of six districts, and in 2008 had a total population of just under half a million. Cumbria as a whole is one of the most sparsely populated counties in the UK with 73.4 people per km2 (190/sq mi). Despite this, the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness has a population density over twelves times this at 921/km2 (2,385.3/sq mi).
