Your French lessons in Wiltshire will be carried out almost completely in French. This is the Communicative Approach and by this method you will notice progress from the initial lesson. You will soon feel confident and able to use French to communicate in various business and social situations. The French courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 French training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Participants numbers should be kept to 6 or less, and they will need to commit to meeting every week.
If you require faster progress, 1:1 French courses at Wiltshire are more suitable as the lessons and course can be tailored to the individual’s needs while focusing on their specific weaknesses and strengths. Before you start your French language course we will assess your level of French and speak to you about your aims so that your French language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to French before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in French when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use French in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced French language trainers will tailor your French course so that your goals can be quickly met. French Language Examination CoursesWe are happy to help in your preparation for any French examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced French teachers in Wiltshire.
Issuing of results certificates, registration for French examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON. The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.
Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

SIMON & SIMON International Breaking the Language Barrier Back to top of French Courses Wiltshire French is a Romance language spoken as a first language by around 136 million people worldwide. A total of 500 million speak it as either a first, second, and foreign language. Moreover, some 200 million people learn French as a foreign language. French speaking communities are present in 56 countries and territories. Most native speakers of the language live in France, the rest live essentially in Canada, particularly Quebec, a minority in New Brunswick and Maine, as well as Belgium, Switzerland, Monaco, Luxembourg and Louisiana. Most second-language speakers of French live in Francophone Africa, arguably exceeding the number of native speakers. Wiltshire is a ceremonial county in South West England. It is landlocked and borders the counties of Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire. It contains the unitary authority of Swindon and covers 3,485 km2 (861,000 acres). The ancient county town was Wilton, but since 1930 Wiltshire County Council and its successor Wiltshire Council (from 2009) have been based at Trowbridge.
Wiltshire is characterised by its high downland and wide valleys. Salisbury Plain is famous as the location of the Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles and other ancient landmarks and as the main training area in the UK of the British Army. The city of Salisbury is notable for its medieval cathedral. Important country houses open to the public include Longleat, near Warminster, and the National Trust's Stourhead, near Mere.
Wiltshire is notable for its pre-Roman archeology. The Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age people that occupied southern Britain built settlements on the hills and downland that cover Wiltshire. Stonehenge and Avebury are perhaps the most famous Neolithic sites in the UK.
In the 6th and 7th centuries Wiltshire was at the western edge of Saxon Britain, as Cranborne Chase and the Somerset Levels prevented the advance to the west. The Battle of Bedwyn was fought in 675 between Escuin, a West Saxon nobleman who had seized the throne of Queen Saxburga, and King Wulfhere of Mercia. In 878 the Danes invaded the county.
