Modern language teaching is now approached much differently to how you might remember learning languages in school. The experience is now much more fun and rewarding.
The Communicative Approach, where your English teacher will conduct your lessons almost entirely in English means that progress is made from your very first lesson. Soon, you will have such confidence that using English in a social or business setting will be no problem. Both 1:1 and group formats are available for our English language courses. While most of our clients offer 1:1 English training, the group format can offer great value for money. If you want groups to be successful, the members must commit to the weekly meetings and we recommend keeping the number of participants below 7.
Progress is faster for those who learn English in Winchester on a 1:1 basis as the lessons are individually tailored for their particular needs, strengths and weaknesses. We also arrange weekend English courses on request. Our English programs commence from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday.
Intensive 30 hour per week English language courses, held on clients’ premises or at residential centres in the UK or abroad, are also available on a 6 hours per day basis, Monday through Friday. Whatever your personal level of experience and future goals, your English course will be customised for you. Before you start the course we will assess your level of English and discuss in detail what you would like to focus on.
You may desire simply to gain everyday English skills from the level of a complete beginner, or you may have more experience in English and want to improve your ability to discuss banking, finance or marketing.
You may want to develop improved pronunciation and comprehension skills or improve your English for use in negotiations and meetings.
Whatever your goals and needs, our highly experienced English language trainers will tailor your English course so that your goals will be met quickly. English Language Examination CoursesIf you are taking a English examination, for business or other reasons, we are happy to help you with your preparations. We are very proud of the 95% pass rate of our students in language examinations. We believe this highlights the value of working with English teachers in Winchester whose experience is above average.
SIMON & SIMON can also register you for your English examination, administer the examination and issue you your results. The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.
Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

SIMON & SIMON International Breaking the Language Barrier Back to top of English Courses Winchester English is a West Germanic language that arose in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and spread into what was to become south-east Scotland under the influence of the Anglian medieval kingdom of Northumbria. Following the economic, political, military, scientific, cultural, and colonial influence of Great Britain and the United Kingdom from the 18th century, via the British Empire, and of the United States since the mid-20th century, it has been widely dispersed around the world, become the leading language of international discourse, and has acquired use as lingua franca in many regions. It is widely learned as a second language and used as an official language of the European Union and many Commonwealth countries, as well as in many world organizations. It is the third most natively spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Winchester is the county town of Hampshire, in South East England. It lies at the heart of the wider City of Winchester, a local government district, and is located at the western end of the South Downs, along the course of the River Itchen. At the time of the 2001 Census, Winchester had a population of 41,420.
Archaically known as Winton and Wintonceastre, Winchester is a historic cathedral city and the ancient capital of Wessex and the Kingdom of England. It developed from the Roman town of Venta Belgarum. Winchester's major landmark is Winchester Cathedral, one of the largest cathedrals in England, with the distinction of having the longest nave and overall length of all Gothic cathedrals in Europe. The town is also home to Winchester University and Winchester College - famous Public School. Winchester railway station is served by trains running from London Waterloo, Weymouth, Portsmouth, Southampton and the North. The city's architectural and historic interest, and its fast links to other towns and cities have led Winchester to become one of the most expensive and desirable areas of the country. A person who is from or resides in Winchester is locally known as a Wintonian.
