SIMON & SIMON’s team of qualified native English speaking teachers average 15 years of experience. Professionals and private individuals from all over the UK have benefited from SIMON & SIMON’s English language courses, all of which are tailor-made to reflect each student's level of experience. We consistently receive outstanding feedback from our clients about our English tutors. Each student is sent a specific profile on the experience and background of their English tutor before they start their course of lessons.

The way that modern languages are taught has gone through a revolution in the past few years. If you have only learned languages at school you will find that the experience now is vastly more fun and worthwhile. The Communicative Approach means that your English lessons in Nottinghamshire will be almost entirely through the medium of English. You will feel that you are making real progress, even in the first lesson, and will soon communicate in English with confidence, in a range of social and business environments.

Both 1:1 and group formats are available for our English language courses. While most of our clients offer 1:1 English training, the group format can offer great value for money. If you want groups to be successful, the members must commit to the weekly meetings and we recommend keeping the number of participants below 7. Progress is faster for those who learn English in Nottinghamshire on a 1:1 basis as the lessons are individually tailored for their particular needs, strengths and weaknesses.

English Course Management

SIMON & SIMON’s English language courses all have a specific Account Manager who oversee the course. Each of these managers is highly experienced and multi-lingual. At the start of your English course, you will receive a profile on your trainer, course materials and a Course Plan. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. We will send you our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, which contains a wonderful prize draw as well as weblinks to valuable language learning resources.

We have a global network of language trainers so our English language courses can be arranged for almost any major European city, or even further abroad. SIMON & SIMON have run English language courses for clients in many diverse locations. English language courses can be run in your home for your convenience, but many of our clients prefer to run them in their offices so as to minimise travel. For a list of the locations of the full-time residential English language courses that we offer, contact our office.

Nottinghamshire English Course Schedules

Our English language courses in Nottinghamshire go on all year. Some of our students attend more than one 90-minute weekly session if work circumstances allow, and most will attend at least one per week. Weekend Courses in English can be arranged on request. Our English courses are available 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday. 30 hour per week intensive English courses can be held on clients’ premises or in residential centres in the UK or abroad. These courses take 6 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

We will tailor your English language course for your specific aims and level of knowledge. Before you start your English language course we will assess your goals and level of English experience. Your desire to learn English may be simply to develop basic skills, or you may have some level of proficiency and wish to increase your ability to use English to discuss business. You may want to develop your language skills so that you can use English in negotiations and meetings or improve your pronunciation and telephone skills. No matter what goals you have, you can be confident of our English trainers experience and that your English language course is tailored to your needs and your goals will be quickly met.

English Language Examination Courses

Our students’ pass rate for English examinations is at 95%, and we are happy to help with the preparations for any such examination. Our high pass rate shows the value of working with English teachers in Nottinghamshire who have a higher level of experience than average. SIMON & SIMON also arrange registration for English examinations as well as administering the examination and issuing the results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of English Courses Nottinghamshire

English is a West Germanic language that arose in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and spread into what was to become south-east Scotland under the influence of the Anglian medieval kingdom of Northumbria. Following the economic, political, military, scientific, cultural, and colonial influence of Great Britain and the United Kingdom from the 18th century, via the British Empire, and of the United States since the mid-20th century, it has been widely dispersed around the world, become the leading language of international discourse, and has acquired use as lingua franca in many regions. It is widely learned as a second language and used as an official language of the European Union and many Commonwealth countries, as well as in many world organizations. It is the third most natively spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

Nottinghamshire is an English county in the East Midlands, which borders South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. The county town is traditionally Nottingham, though the council is now based in West Bridgford, a suburb of Greater Nottingham (at a site facing Nottingham City over the River Trent). The districts of Nottinghamshire are Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, and Rushcliffe. The City of Nottingham was administratively part of Nottinghamshire between 1974 and 1998 but is now a unitary authority although it remains part of the historic and ceremonial county. As of 2006 the county is estimated to have a population of just over one million. Over half of the population of the county live in the conurbation of Greater Nottingham Core City Area which also spreads into Derbyshire. The conurbation has a population of about 650,000, though less than half live within the city boundaries.
