Many professionals in companies across the UK, as well as private individuals, have benefited from an English Language Course with SIMON & SIMON. We have a terrific team of qualified native-speaker English teachers, and with an average of 15 years' experience they will ensure you benefit from a course designed specifically around your needs, whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced learner with more specialised requirements. We consistently receive excellent feedback on our English tutors from our clients, and we send our students a profile on their English tutor prior to their English lessons commencing, with information on the tutor's background and experience.

The way that modern languages are taught has gone through a revolution in the past few years. If you have only learned languages at school you will find that the experience now is vastly more fun and worthwhile. The Communicative Approach means that your English lessons in Derbyshire will be almost entirely through the medium of English. You will feel that you are making real progress, even in the first lesson, and will soon communicate in English with confidence, in a range of social and business environments.

Both 1:1 and group formats are available for our English language courses. While most of our clients offer 1:1 English training, the group format can offer great value for money. If you want groups to be successful, the members must commit to the weekly meetings and we recommend keeping the number of participants below 7. Progress is faster for those who learn English in Derbyshire on a 1:1 basis as the lessons are individually tailored for their particular needs, strengths and weaknesses.

English Course Management

One of our highly experienced, multilingual Account managers oversees each SIMON & SIMON English language course. On starting your English course you will receive various materials including a profile on your trainer, a Course Plan and course materials and a Progress Report on every 40 hours of your training. Breaking the Language Barrier, our quarterly newsletter, which contains weblinks to various language learning sources and a prize draw, will also be sent to you.

English language courses have been run by SIMON & SIMON in many locations. Our global network of language trainers means that any major city in the UK Europe, and beyond can hold your English language course. We can arrange your English language lessons for your own home, but many of our clients like to run them in their offices so as to minimise travel. Residential full-time English language courses are also available. Our office can discuss available locations with you.

Derbyshire English Course Schedules

Our English language courses in Derbyshire go on all year. Some of our students attend more than one 90-minute weekly session if work circumstances allow, and most will attend at least one per week. Weekend Courses in English can be arranged on request. Our English courses are available 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday. 30 hour per week intensive English courses can be held on clients’ premises or in residential centres in the UK or abroad. These courses take 6 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

We will tailor your English language course for your specific aims and level of knowledge. Before you start your English language course we will assess your goals and level of English experience. Your desire to learn English may be simply to develop basic skills, or you may have some level of proficiency and wish to increase your ability to use English to discuss business. You may want to develop your language skills so that you can use English in negotiations and meetings or improve your pronunciation and telephone skills. No matter what goals you have, you can be confident of our English trainers experience and that your English language course is tailored to your needs and your goals will be quickly met.

English Language Examination Courses

Our students’ pass rate for English examinations is at 95%, and we are happy to help with the preparations for any such examination. Our high pass rate shows the value of working with English teachers in Derbyshire who have a higher level of experience than average. SIMON & SIMON also arrange registration for English examinations as well as administering the examination and issuing the results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

English is a West Germanic language that arose in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and spread into what was to become south-east Scotland under the influence of the Anglian medieval kingdom of Northumbria. Following the economic, political, military, scientific, cultural, and colonial influence of Great Britain and the United Kingdom from the 18th century, via the British Empire, and of the United States since the mid-20th century, it has been widely dispersed around the world, become the leading language of international discourse, and has acquired use as lingua franca in many regions. It is widely learned as a second language and used as an official language of the European Union and many Commonwealth countries, as well as in many world organizations. It is the third most natively spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

Derbyshire is a county in the East Midlands of England. A substantial portion of the Peak District National Park lies within Derbyshire. The northern part of Derbyshire overlaps with the Pennines, a famous chain of hills and mountains. The county contains within its boundary of approx. 225 miles, part of the National Forest, and borders on Greater Manchester to the North West, West Yorkshire to the North, South Yorkshire to the North East, Nottinghamshire to the East, Leicestershire to the South East, Staffordshire to the West and South West and Cheshire also to the West. In 2003 the Ordnance Survey placed Church Flatts farm, approximately 35 kilometres (22 mi) north, at Coton in the Elms, Derbyshire, as the furthest point from the sea in Great Britain. The city of Derby is now a unitary authority area, but remains part of the ceremonial county of Derbyshire. The non-metropolitan county contains 30 towns with between 10,000 and 100,000 inhabitants. There is a large amount of sparsely populated agricultural upland: 75% of the population live in 25% of the area.
