We consistently receive outstanding feedback from our clients about our English tutors. Each student is sent a specific profile on the experience and background of their English tutor before they start their course of lessons. The way that modern languages are taught has gone through a revolution in the past few years. If you have only learned languages at school you will find that the experience now is vastly more fun and worthwhile.
The Communicative Approach means that your English lessons in Cambridge will be almost entirely through the medium of English. You will feel that you are making real progress, even in the first lesson, and will soon communicate in English with confidence, in a range of social and business environments. English courses from us can be run for groups or individuals. While many of our clients offer their employees English courses on a 1:1 basis, group sessions can be excellent value. Group sessions do require planning and commitment from the participants and we recommend that no more than 6 people participate in a group.
As 1:1 lessons can be tailored to an individual’s needs, strengths and weaknesses, learning English in Cambridge on a 1:1 basis will give quicker progress. English Course ManagementSIMON & SIMON’s English language courses all have a specific Account Manager who oversee the course. Each of these managers is highly experienced and multi-lingual.
At the start of your English course, you will receive a profile on your trainer, course materials and a Course Plan. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. We will send you our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, which contains a wonderful prize draw as well as weblinks to valuable language learning resources. SIMON & SIMON has arranged English language courses for clients in numerous locations, and with our global network of language trainers we can organise a English language course for you wherever you are - in almost any major city in the UK, Europe and beyond.
The vast majority of our English lessons take place at our clients' offices, removing the need for you to travel, but English lessons can take place in your home if that is more convenient.
We can also arrange full-time residential English language courses for you - just contact our office for information on available destinations. Cambridge English Course SchedulesThe English language courses in Cambridge that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more.
We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. English courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm.
Intensive English language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday. Before you start your English language course we will assess your level of English and speak to you about your aims so that your English language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to English before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in English when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use English in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced English language trainers will tailor your English course so that your goals can be quickly met. English Language Examination CoursesWe are happy to help in your preparation for any English examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced English teachers in Cambridge.
Issuing of results certificates, registration for English examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON. The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.
Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

SIMON & SIMON International Breaking the Language Barrier Back to top of English Courses Cambridge English is a West Germanic language that arose in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and spread into what was to become south-east Scotland under the influence of the Anglian medieval kingdom of Northumbria. Following the economic, political, military, scientific, cultural, and colonial influence of Great Britain and the United Kingdom from the 18th century, via the British Empire, and of the United States since the mid-20th century, it has been widely dispersed around the world, become the leading language of international discourse, and has acquired use as lingua franca in many regions. It is widely learned as a second language and used as an official language of the European Union and many Commonwealth countries, as well as in many world organizations. It is the third most natively spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. The city of Cambridge is a university town and the administrative centre of the county of Cambridgeshire, England. It lies in East Anglia about 50 miles (80 km) north-by-east of London. Cambridge is at the heart of the high-technology centre known as Silicon Fen – a play on Silicon Valley and the fens surrounding the city.
Cambridge is well known as the home of the University of Cambridge. The university includes the renowned Cavendish Laboratory, King's College Chapel, and the Cambridge University Library. The Cambridge skyline is dominated by the last two buildings, along with the chimney of Addenbrooke's Hospital in the far south of the city and St John's College Chapel tower in the north.
According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, the city's population was 108,863 (including 22,153 students), and the population of the urban area (which includes parts of the neighbouring South Cambridgeshire district) is estimated to be 130,000.
