Both professionals and non-professionals alike have seen great benefits from a SIMON & SIMON Dutch Language Course. SIMON & SIMON’s team of qualified Dutch teachers is made up of native speakers who average 15 years of experience. These teachers will make sure that a course is tailored for your specific needs so that you will benefit regardless of your language proficiency. Feedback from clients on our Dutch tutors is consistently highly positive. Our students are sent a profile containing information on their specific teacher’s experience and background before the start of their Dutch Lessons.

The way that modern languages are taught has gone through a revolution in the past few years. If you have only learned languages at school you will find that the experience now is vastly more fun and worthwhile. The Communicative Approach means that your Dutch lessons in York will be almost entirely through the medium of Dutch. You will feel that you are making real progress, even in the first lesson, and will soon communicate in Dutch with confidence, in a range of social and business environments.

The Dutch courses that we offer can be run as 1:1 or group sessions. While most of our clients use 1:1 Dutch training for their employees, group sessions can be good value. Participants numbers should be kept to 6 or less, and they will need to commit to meeting every week. If you require faster progress, 1:1 Dutch courses at York are more suitable as the lessons and course can be tailored to the individual’s needs while focusing on their specific weaknesses and strengths.

Dutch Course Management

SIMON & SIMON’s Dutch language courses all have a specific Account Manager who oversee the course. Each of these managers is highly experienced and multi-lingual. At the start of your Dutch course, you will receive a profile on your trainer, course materials and a Course Plan. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. We will send you our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, which contains a wonderful prize draw as well as weblinks to valuable language learning resources.

Dutch language courses have been run by SIMON & SIMON in many locations. Our global network of language trainers means that any major city in the UK Europe, and beyond can hold your Dutch language course. We can arrange your Dutch language lessons for your own home, but many of our clients like to run them in their offices so as to minimise travel. Residential full-time Dutch language courses are also available. Our office can discuss available locations with you.

York Dutch Course Schedules

Our Dutch language courses in York take place throughout the year. Many of our students try to attend more than one weekly lesson if work commitments allow, and most will attend at least one session of 90-minutes duration per week. If you would like a Weekend Course, one can be arranged. Our Dutch daytime courses run from 8am through to 8pm, Monday - Friday. We also provide Intensive Dutch language courses on clients’ premises or in residential centres both in the UK and abroad. These courses run for 30 hours of the week, 6 hours a day from Monday to Friday.

The Dutch language course that you undertake will be customised for your Dutch level and personal goals. Before you start the course, we will speak to you about your desired focus and assess you Dutch level. You may have little or no experience of Dutch and only want basic conversational skills or you may be more proficient and desire more fluency with which to discuss business. You may want to raise your Dutch skills for use in meetings and negotiations or rather develop increased comprehension and pronunciation skills. Whatever your objectives, our Dutch language trainers are highly experienced, and you can be confident that your personalised Dutch course will help you to meet your goals quickly.

Dutch Language Examination Courses

SIMON & SIMON also assists in preparation for Dutch examinations, whether for business or personal qualification. We believe that our 95% pass rate for language examinations is a reflection of our policy of working with Dutch teachers in York who possess above average experience. Registration for and administration of Dutch examinations, along with the issuing of results certificates are all provided by SIMON & SIMON.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Dutch Courses York

Dutch is a West Germanic language and the native language of the majority of the population of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Suriname, the three member states of the Dutch Language Union. Most speakers live in the European Union, where it is a first language for about 23 million and a second language for another 5 million people. It also holds official status in the Caribbean island nations of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint-Maarten, while historical minorities remain in parts of France and Germany, and to a lesser extent, in Indonesia, and up to 600,000 native Dutch-speakers may be living in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

York is a walled city, situated at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city was founded by the Romans in 71 AD. They called it Eboracum, a name perhaps derived from one used by the British tribes who inhabited the area. The Romans made it the capital of their Province of Britannia Inferior. While the Roman colonia and fortress were located on high ground, by 400 the town itself was victim to periodic flooding from the rivers Ouse and Foss and lay abandoned. In the early 5th century the area was settled by Angles, who called the town Eoforwic. Reclamation of the flooded parts of the town were initiated in the 7th century under King Edwin. The city came to be the episcopal, and later, royal centre of the Kingdom of Northumbria.
