Both professionals and non-professionals alike have seen great benefits from a SIMON & SIMON Dutch Language Course. SIMON & SIMON’s team of qualified Dutch teachers is made up of native speakers who average 15 years of experience. These teachers will make sure that a course is tailored for your specific needs so that you will benefit regardless of your language proficiency. Feedback from clients on our Dutch tutors is consistently highly positive. Our students are sent a profile containing information on their specific teacher’s experience and background before the start of their Dutch Lessons.

If the only experience you have of studying a language is from your time in school, you may not know that there has been a revolution in the teaching of modern languages so that it is both more fun and more worthwhile. Your Dutch teacher in Sheffield will be using the Communicative Approach, where your lessons will, with few exceptions, be conducted in Dutch. You will see your progress from that very first lesson and will soon be confident enough to conduct business or talk socially in Dutch.

Our Dutch courses are usually offered by our clients as 1:1 training for their employees. Group sessions, however, are also available and can be excellent value for money. Planning is required so that participants all meet at the same time each week, and we recommend that numbers are kept to 6 or less. 1:1 Dutch lessons at Sheffield mean that you will have your individual needs, weaknesses and strengths catered for, so that your progress is quicker.

Dutch Course Management

Every SIMON & SIMON Dutch language course has a highly experienced, multi-lingual Account Manager who oversees it. When your Dutch course starts you will be sent a profile on your trainer, materials for your course and a Course Plan as well as a Progress Report for every 40 hours of training. Breaking the Language Barrier, our quarterly newsletter that you will also receive, contains a prize draw as well as weblinks to a number of learning resources.

SIMON & SIMON Dutch language courses have been arranged for clients in various locations. We have a global network of trainers and wherever you are, we will be able to organise a Dutch language course for you, not only in the UK but in almost any of the major cities in Europe and beyond. Most of our Dutch courses are run at the offices of our clients so that you do not have to travel, but we are happy to arrange Dutch training sessions for you in your home. Full-time Dutch courses can be arranged in a residential setting for you. Our office has information on the locations we offer.

Sheffield Dutch Course Schedules

We run our Dutch language courses in Sheffield all through the year. Many of our students, if work commitments allow, will attend more than one session weekly, and the vast majority take part in at least one 90-minute lesson weekly. We also arrange weekend Dutch courses on request. Our Dutch programs commence from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Intensive 30 hour per week Dutch language courses, held on clients’ premises or at residential centres in the UK or abroad, are also available on a 6 hours per day basis, Monday through Friday.

Whatever your personal level of experience and future goals, your Dutch course will be customised for you. Before you start the course we will assess your level of Dutch and discuss in detail what you would like to focus on. You may desire simply to gain everyday Dutch skills from the level of a complete beginner, or you may have more experience in Dutch and want to improve your ability to discuss banking, finance or marketing. You may want to develop improved pronunciation and comprehension skills or improve your Dutch for use in negotiations and meetings. Whatever your goals and needs, our highly experienced Dutch language trainers will tailor your Dutch course so that your goals will be met quickly.

Dutch Language Examination Courses

If you are taking a Dutch examination, for business or other reasons, we are happy to help you with your preparations. We are very proud of the 95% pass rate of our students in language examinations. We believe this highlights the value of working with Dutch teachers in Sheffield whose experience is above average. SIMON & SIMON can also register you for your Dutch examination, administer the examination and issue you your results.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Dutch Courses Sheffield

Dutch is a West Germanic language and the native language of the majority of the population of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Suriname, the three member states of the Dutch Language Union. Most speakers live in the European Union, where it is a first language for about 23 million and a second language for another 5 million people. It also holds official status in the Caribbean island nations of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint-Maarten, while historical minorities remain in parts of France and Germany, and to a lesser extent, in Indonesia, and up to 600,000 native Dutch-speakers may be living in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Sheffield is a city and metropolitan borough of South Yorkshire, England. Its name derives from the River Sheaf, which runs through the city. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the city has grown from its largely industrial roots to encompass a wider economic base. The population of the City of Sheffield is 534,500 (2008 est.) and it is one of the eight largest regional English cities that make up the English Core Cities Group. During the 19th century, Sheffield gained an international reputation for steel production. Many innovations were developed locally, including crucible and stainless steel, fuelling an almost tenfold increase in the population during the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield received its municipal charter in 1893, officially becoming the City of Sheffield. International competition in iron and steel caused a decline in traditional local industries during the 1970s and 1980s, coinciding with the collapse of coal mining in the area. The 21st century has seen extensive redevelopment in Sheffield along with other British cities. Sheffield's gross value added (GVA) has increased by 60% since 1997, standing at £9.2 billion in 2007. The economy has experienced steady growth averaging around 5% annually, greater than that of the broader region of Yorkshire and the Humber.
