Please click a title below for further information:

Designed and customised for the individual student’s needs, SIMON & SIMON’s Dutch courses, taught by a team of qualified native Dutch speakers who average 15 years of experience, have already benefited professionals and non-professionals across the UK. Courses cater for all levels of experience. The feedback on our Dutch tutors that we receive from our clients is consistently excellent. Prior to the start of your Dutch course, you will be sent a profile on your specific Dutch teacher’s experience and background.

The way that modern languages are taught has gone through a revolution in the past few years. If you have only learned languages at school you will find that the experience now is vastly more fun and worthwhile. The Communicative Approach means that your Dutch lessons in Devon will be almost entirely through the medium of Dutch. You will feel that you are making real progress, even in the first lesson, and will soon communicate in Dutch with confidence, in a range of social and business environments.

We offer Dutch courses as group sessions or on a 1:1 basis/ Most of our clients offer their employees 1:1 Dutch training, however, if planned carefully, with participants numbering 6 or less who commit to meeting every week, group sessions can be good value for money. Those who learn Dutch at Devon on a 1:1 basis will find that they progress more quickly, as the lessons can be specifically tailored for their individual needs, strengths and weaknesses.

Dutch Course Management

A multi-lingual Account Manager with extensive experience is responsible for each SIMON & SIMON Dutch language course. A profile on your trainer, Course Plan and course materials will be sent to you when you start your Dutch course. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. We will also send you Breaking the Language Barrier, our quarterly newsletter, which contains a wonderful prize draw and valuable language learning resource weblinks.

We have a global network of language trainers so our Dutch language courses can be arranged for almost any major European city, or even further abroad. SIMON & SIMON have run Dutch language courses for clients in many diverse locations. Dutch language courses can be run in your home for your convenience, but many of our clients prefer to run them in their offices so as to minimise travel. Devon Dutch Course Schedules

The Dutch language courses in Devon that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. Dutch courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Dutch language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Dutch language course we will assess your level of Dutch and speak to you about your aims so that your Dutch language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to Dutch before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in Dutch when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use Dutch in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced Dutch language trainers will tailor your Dutch course so that your goals can be quickly met.

Dutch Language Examination Courses

We are happy to help in your preparation for any Dutch examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced Dutch teachers in Devon. Issuing of results certificates, registration for Dutch examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Dutch Courses Devon

Dutch is a West Germanic language and the native language of the majority of the population of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Suriname, the three member states of the Dutch Language Union. Most speakers live in the European Union, where it is a first language for about 23 million and a second language for another 5 million people. It also holds official status in the Caribbean island nations of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint-Maarten, while historical minorities remain in parts of France and Germany, and to a lesser extent, in Indonesia, and up to 600,000 native Dutch-speakers may be living in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Devon is a large county in southwestern England. The county is sometimes referred to as Devonshire, although the term is rarely used inside the county itself and often indicates a traditional or historical context, such as The Devonshire Association, which was formed in 1862. The county shares borders with Cornwall to the west and Dorset and Somerset to the east. Its southern coast abuts the English Channel and its northern coast the Bristol Channel. The name "Devon" derives from the kingdom of Dumnonia, which was home to the tribe of Celtic people who inhabited this area of the southwestern peninsula of Britain at the time of the Roman invasion in AD 43, Dumnonii―possibly meaning 'Deep Valley Dwellers' or 'Worshippers of the god Dumnonos'. Devon is the fourth largest of the English counties and has a population of 1,141,600. The county town is the cathedral city of Exeter and the county contains two independent unitary authorities: the port city of Plymouth and the Torbay conurbation of seaside resorts, in addition to Devon County Council itself. Plymouth is also the largest city in Devon. Much of the county is rural (including national park) land, with a low population density by British standards. It contains Dartmoor 954 km2 (368 square miles), the largest open space in southern England. The county is home to part of England's only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dorset and East Devon Coast, known as the Jurassic Coast for its geology and geographical features.
