If the only experience you have of studying a language is from your time in school, you may not know that there has been a revolution in the teaching of modern languages so that it is both more fun and more worthwhile. Your Dutch teacher in Cambridge will be using the Communicative Approach, where your lessons will, with few exceptions, be conducted in Dutch. You will see your progress from that very first lesson and will soon be confident enough to conduct business or talk socially in Dutch.

Our Dutch courses are usually offered by our clients as 1:1 training for their employees. Group sessions, however, are also available and can be excellent value for money. Dutch Course Management

Every SIMON & SIMON Dutch language course is overseen by one of our highly experienced Account Managers, all of whom are multi-lingual. At the start of your Dutch language course we will send you a profile on your trainer, followed by a Course Plan and relevant course materials, and then a Progress Report after every 40 hours of training. You will also receive a copy of our quarterly newsletter, Breaking the Language Barrier, featuring a superb prize draw and invaluable weblinks to language learning sources.

SIMON & SIMON Dutch language courses have been arranged for clients in various locations. We have a global network of trainers and wherever you are, we will be able to organise a Dutch language course for you, not only in the UK but in almost any of the major cities in Europe and beyond. Most of our Dutch courses are run at the offices of our clients so that you do not have to travel, but we are happy to arrange Dutch training sessions for you in your home. Cambridge Dutch Course Schedules

The Dutch language courses in Cambridge that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. Dutch courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Dutch language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Dutch language course we will assess your level of Dutch and speak to you about your aims so that your Dutch language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to Dutch before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in Dutch when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use Dutch in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced Dutch language trainers will tailor your Dutch course so that your goals can be quickly met.

Dutch Language Examination Courses

We are happy to help in your preparation for any Dutch examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced Dutch teachers in Cambridge. Issuing of results certificates, registration for Dutch examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Dutch is a West Germanic language and the native language of the majority of the population of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Suriname, the three member states of the Dutch Language Union. Most speakers live in the European Union, where it is a first language for about 23 million and a second language for another 5 million people. It also holds official status in the Caribbean island nations of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint-Maarten, while historical minorities remain in parts of France and Germany, and to a lesser extent, in Indonesia, and up to 600,000 native Dutch-speakers may be living in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

The city of Cambridge is a university town and the administrative centre of the county of Cambridgeshire, England. It lies in East Anglia about 50 miles (80 km) north-by-east of London. Cambridge is at the heart of the high-technology centre known as Silicon Fen – a play on Silicon Valley and the fens surrounding the city. Cambridge is well known as the home of the University of Cambridge. The university includes the renowned Cavendish Laboratory, King's College Chapel, and the Cambridge University Library.
