SIMON & SIMON’s team of qualified native Czech speaking teachers average 15 years of experience. Professionals and private individuals from all over the UK have benefited from SIMON & SIMON’s Czech language courses, all of which are tailor-made to reflect each student's level of experience. We consistently receive outstanding feedback from our clients about our Czech tutors. Each student is sent a specific profile on the experience and background of their Czech tutor before they start their course of lessons.

If you have only studied languages before at school you will find that teaching approaches to modern language training have changed enormously in recent years - it's now a lot more fun and a far more rewarding experience! Your teacher will conduct your Czech lesson in Durham almost entirely in Czech - a method known as the Communicative Approach - and you will find yourself making progress from the very first lesson and soon growing in the confidence to communicate in Czech in a variety of social and business situations.

Our Czech courses are usually offered by our clients as 1:1 training for their employees. Group sessions, however, are also available and can be excellent value for money. Planning is required so that participants all meet at the same time each week, and we recommend that numbers are kept to 6 or less. 1:1 Czech lessons at Durham mean that you will have your individual needs, weaknesses and strengths catered for, so that your progress is quicker.

Czech Course Management

A multi-lingual Account Manager with extensive experience is responsible for each SIMON & SIMON Czech language course. A profile on your trainer, Course Plan and course materials will be sent to you when you start your Czech course. After every 40 hours of training you will receive a Progress Report. We will also send you Breaking the Language Barrier, our quarterly newsletter, which contains a wonderful prize draw and valuable language learning resource weblinks.

We have a global network of language trainers so our Czech language courses can be arranged for almost any major European city, or even further abroad. SIMON & SIMON have run Czech language courses for clients in many diverse locations. Czech language courses can be run in your home for your convenience, but many of our clients prefer to run them in their offices so as to minimise travel. Durham Czech Course Schedules

The Czech language courses in Durham that we run go on through the year. Each week, most of our students will attend at least one of our 90-minute lessons, but many will do more. We can easily arrange Weekend Courses for you. Czech courses run from Monday to Friday, any time from 8am to 8pm. Intensive Czech language courses can be arranged in residential centres abroad or in the UK, or on clients’ premises for 30 hours per week, 6 hours a day Monday to Friday.

Before you start your Czech language course we will assess your level of Czech and speak to you about your aims so that your Czech language course can be customised for you. You may have never been exposed to Czech before and wish to develop basic survival skills, or you may have some experience and wish to be able to speak more fluently in Czech when discussing business. You may want to further your ability to use Czech in negotiations and meetings or better your comprehension and pronunciation abilities. Whatever goals you may have, our experienced Czech language trainers will tailor your Czech course so that your goals can be quickly met.

Czech Language Examination Courses

We are happy to help in your preparation for any Czech examinations. Our students have a 95% pass rate and we think that their success shows the value of our policy of working with above-average experienced Czech teachers in Durham. Issuing of results certificates, registration for Czech examinations and administration of such exams is also provided by SIMON & SIMON.

The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Back to top of Czech Courses Durham

Czech is a West Slavic language with about 12 million native speakers; it is the majority language in the Czech Republic and spoken by Czechs worldwide. The language was known as Bohemian in English until the late 19th century. Czech is similar to and mutually intelligible with Slovak and, to a considerably lesser extent, to Polish and Sorbian.

Durham is a city in the North East of England. It is within the County Durham local government district, and is the county town of the larger ceremonial county. It lies to the south of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Chester-le-Street and Sunderland and to the north of Darlington. Durham is well known for its Norman Cathedral and 11th-century castle, and is home to Durham University. HM Prison Durham is also located close to the city centre. Archeological evidence suggests a history of settlement in the area since roughly 2000 BC. The present city can clearly be traced back to AD 995, when a group of monks from Lindisfarne chose the strategic high peninsula as a place to settle with the body of Saint Cuthbert, that had previously lain in Chester-le-Street, founding a church there. Local legend states that the city was founded in A.D. 995 by divine intervention. The 12th-century chronicler, Symeon of Durham, recounts that after wandering in the north, Saint Cuthbert’s bier miraculously came to a halt at the hill of Warden Law and, despite the effort of the congregation, would not move. Aldhun, Bishop of Chester-le-Street and leader of the order, decreed a holy fast of three days, accompanied by prayers to the saint. Saint Bede recounts that during this fast, Saint Cuthbert appeared to the monk Eadmer with instructions that the coffin should be taken to Dun Holm.
