Tyne-and-Wear Chinese Course Schedules

We run our Chinese language courses in Tyne-and-Wear all through the year. Many of our students, if work commitments allow, will attend more than one session weekly, and the vast majority take part in at least one 90-minute lesson weekly. We also arrange weekend Chinese courses on request. Our Chinese programs commence from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Intensive 30 hour per week Chinese language courses, held on clients’ premises or at residential centres in the UK or abroad, are also available on a 6 hours per day basis, Monday through Friday.

Whatever your personal level of experience and future goals, your Chinese course will be customised for you. Before you start the course we will assess your level of Chinese and discuss in detail what you would like to focus on. You may desire simply to gain everyday Chinese skills from the level of a complete beginner, or you may have more experience in Chinese and want to improve your ability to discuss banking, finance or marketing. You may want to develop improved pronunciation and comprehension skills or improve your Chinese for use in negotiations and meetings. Whatever your goals and needs, our highly experienced Chinese language trainers will tailor your Chinese course so that your goals will be met quickly.

Chinese Language Examination Courses

If you are taking a Chinese examination, for business or other reasons, we are happy to help you with your preparations. The table below is based on recognised language levels used by various academic institutions accross the European Union. A highly motivated student attending weekly sessions with their language trainer can expect to move from one level to another after 50 hours providing they also commit to a similar number of hours of self-study.

Of course, some people find learning languages easier than others, and some students will have more opportunities to practise the language in the course of their work and leisure, so these factors also need to be considered when trying to assess how long it will take to move from one level to another.

Standard Chinese is a standardized form of spoken Chinese, based on the Beijing dialect of Mandarin Chinese. Standard Chinese is the official language of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC, also known as Taiwan), as well as one of four official languages of Singapore. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. About one-fifth of the world’s population, or over one billion people, speaks some variety of Chinese as their native language. Linguists often view Chinese as a language family, though owing to China's socio-political and cultural situation, and the fact that all spoken varieties use one common written system, it is customary to refer to these generally mutually unintelligible variants as "the Chinese language".

Tyne and Wear is a metropolitan county in North East England around the mouths of the Rivers Tyne and Wear. It came into existence as a metropolitan county in 1974 after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972. It consists of the five metropolitan boroughs of South Tyneside, North Tyneside, City of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead and the City of Sunderland. North Tyneside and Newcastle upon Tyne had previously existed within the historic county of Northumberland, whereas South Tyneside, Gateshead and Sunderland were all previously within the borders of County Durham, with the River Tyne forming the border of the two counties. Tyne and Wear is bounded on the east by the North Sea, and as a Ceremonial county, shares borders with Northumberland to the north and County Durham to the south. Tyne and Wear County Council was abolished in 1986, and so its districts (the metropolitan boroughs) are now effectively unitary authorities. However, the metropolitan county continues to exist in law and as a geographic frame of reference.
